DIGITAL COPY SERIES
Our digital copy devices, when attached to a laser or colour
printer, will turn your printer into a high-quality digital
copier with the least cost of ownership. In contrast with the
traditional copiers which produce copies in black and white
only, Avision's Copy Series combined with a printer allows you
to make black and white, greyscale or full-colour copies.
Avision's copy devices are also adept at copying high-quality,
mixed photo-and-text originals as well as 3D objects. Digital
copy devices offers the benefits of noise reduction, heat and
ozone levels caused by traditional copiers, hence a more
comfortable working environment.

EPSON launches the EPSON PERFECTION 4990
PHOTO scanner, which at 4800 dpi and an Optical Density of 4.0
delivers exceptional scanning quality
Available for immediate shipping!
|
The Perfection 4990 Photo is designed for
graphics professionals and photo enthusiasts who are concerned
about high image quality and productivity
|
EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO
|
High Quality / High Speed Scanning
|
| With a resolution of 4800 x 9600 dpi, faster scan
speed, high maximum optical density, better image quality as well
as the ability to scan more film formats, the PERFECTION 4990
PHOTO makes film scanning more reliable, easier and faster. The
EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO scanner has a high (48-bit) gradation,
enabling it to generate more colours. With a maximum optical
density of 4.0, the EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO is able to capture a
greater tonal range from film scans, rivalling the performance of
dedicated film scanners.
Unlike many competitors in its class, the images scanned by
EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO are processed by the onboard ASIC chip -
ensuring high speed scanning by reducing the scanner's dependence
on the PC's processor and RAM capacity.
The EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO uses a newly designed moving carriage
Transparency Unit [TPU] which can produce brighter luminance,
which together with new lamps, means higher film scanning speeds
can be achieved.
The EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO also incorporates blue toned lamps to
increase the scanning speed for negatives. As the base colour of
negative film material is brownish in colour, when scans of
negatives are made with white light, the transmission of the blue
component is much less effective than the green and red
components. To preserve image quality, other scanners use a longer
exposure time for blue to compensate for its loss during negative
film scanning, which slows the overall scanning speed.
In the EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO, the blue toned lamp shortens
exposure time for blue and therefore increases the scanning speed
for negative scans, without affecting quality or speed on other
film types.
|
High Optical Density of 4.0 - Crisp
Definition |
| With an optical density rivalling many dedicated
film scanners, the EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO scanner produces sharp,
high quality scans with accurate colour reproduction. The
remarkable 4.0 optical density gives film scanning performance a
major boost.
The optical density of the EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO is a
significant advancement over earlier models and enhances the
scanner's ability to capture full details in both highlight and
shadow, delivering exceptionally clear and highly detailed scans.
This means that when you scan in your negatives for photograph
printing, you will be able to capture the same amount of detail,
if not more, than if you had them printed at the photo lab. |
| Professional Film
Scanning |
| With the emphasis on 'Film Scan', the EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO is
designed with the ability to scan many different types of film
formats: twenty-four frames of 35mm stripfilm, eight frames of
35mm slides, three 6x12cm (max.) frames of 120/220 format film,
two 4"x5" format film or one 8"x10" transparency. |
|
| Digital Ice |
| The EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO also includes Digital ICE
technology. Digital ICE automatically detects and corrects defects
on the surfaces of colour negatives and positives during the
scanning process.
Digital ICE for Film - "Film ICE" technology - automatically
removes surface defects from a scanned image such as scratches,
dust and dirt particles, fingerprints, marks, where image data is
available from the dye layers of the film.
|
|
| Digital ICE differentiates itself from
software-only solutions because it does not soften, blur or
otherwise alter any underlying details or composition of the
original image. Instead, Digital ICE technology works from within
the scanner during the scanning process to provide users with a
clear, authentic base image that improves on the original image.
This is accomplished by obtaining information about the nature and
location of surface and near-surface defects as an image is
scanned. During the typical scanning process, red, green and
blue image information is gathered from the RGB channels while
Digital ICE scanning uses a fourth channel (referred to as Defect
channel) using an infrared LED to collect the defect information.
Digital ICE for Photo Prints - Print ICE technology -
automatically removes surface defects such as scratches, dust and
dirt particles, folds, creases and tears from a scanned print
image.
Digital ICE uses differential shadowing technology and
proprietary software algorithms to identify the precise locations
of physical defects, or visual "noise" on a print being scanned.
Digital ICE for Photo Prints quickly and automatically eliminates
the unwanted defects, producing a scanned image file that improves
upon the original print.
|
| Photo Restoration |
| Among the EPSON Scan tools are Colour Restoration,
Dust Removal and Grain Reduction, which are now available in Full
Auto Mode. Designed specifically for high quality photo and film
scanning, Colour Restoration employs sophisticated technology to
restore image colour that has been subjected to fading and other
colour loss influences, such as light and airborne contaminants.
With Dust Removal, EPSON Scan automatically detects dust on film
and negatives, making the necessary adjustments. Grain Reduction
will smooth any rough or sandy looking images and is available
when using the scanner in Professional mode. The Grain Reduction
function works by applying a filter which smoothes the image using
Low/Mid/High settings. |
Bundled Software
|
| Bundled with the EPSON PERFECTION 4990 PHOTO is a full
range of scanning software tools - tools that provide essential
control over this powerful scanner. Designed to enhance the
quality of your scanned photographs, negatives and transparencies,
these tools include Colour Restoration, Dust Removal and Grain
Reduction. Regardless of the age or condition of your originals,
improving the colour, clarity and detail can be achieved in a
matter of seconds.
Complementing the restoration tools are:
- Photoshop Elements 2
